Saitama is an AI tutor that teaches on a whiteboard. This page explains, in plain words, what we collect when you learn with it, why we need it, who helps us run Saitama, and what you can ask us to do with it.
In short
- You can learn without an account: we only ask what to call you and how old you are. If you sign in with Google, we get only your name, email address and profile picture.
- Your questions, photos and voice are sent to AI services so the tutor can teach you.
- We never sell your information and we don’t show ads.
- Email support@trysaitama.com and we’ll send you a copy of your data or delete it.
1. What we collect
What you give us to learn from
The questions you ask, typed or spoken; recordings of your voice while the microphone is on; photos of homework or notes you choose to send; and your follow-up questions during a lesson.
The lessons Saitama makes for you
What the tutor draws on the board and what it says, so you can go back to a lesson later.
Your account
You don’t need one. Before your first question we ask what to call you and how old you are; a first name or a nickname is fine. Your age is used to explain things at the right level for you, and goes with your questions to the tutor. If you learn without signing in, Saitama gives your browser a guest account with that name and age. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID. We don’t receive your password, contacts, files or anything else in your Google account.
How you use Saitama
Which pages you open and what you tap, how long lessons take, and errors. We also record sessions: a replay of what happens on the screen, including what you type, so we can see where Saitama confuses people and fix it.
Messages you send us
Feedback from the app, and emails.
Like any website, our servers also see your IP address and basic details about your browser when you connect.
2. How we use it
- To teach you. Your question, photo or voice goes to AI models that understand it, look up facts, plan the lesson and speak it.
- To keep your lessons. Your recent lessons are saved so you can reopen them, and on any phone or computer once you sign in.
- To teach you better within a sitting. The tutor keeps short notes on what it has covered with you and what seems to help you understand. The notes are kept on your device and sent along with your questions.
- To improve Saitama. Usage data and session recordings show us what works and what breaks.
- To reply to you when you write to us.
We don’t sell your information, share it for advertising, or use it to train AI models of our own.
3. Who helps us run Saitama
These companies process information for us only to provide their service to Saitama:
| Company | What they do for Saitama |
|---|---|
| Gemini AI models, through Google Cloud and Google AI Studio, read your questions, photos and voice, search the web for facts, write the lesson and speak it. Google also runs “Sign in with Google”. | |
| TypeSafe | Reads a follow-up question together with the current lesson to tell whether you’re asking about the same lesson or starting a new topic. |
| Supabase | Stores accounts and saved lessons, on servers in Japan. |
| Render | Hosts the Saitama website and servers. |
| PostHog | Usage analytics and session recordings, stored in the United States. |
Because of this, your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect people’s safety.
4. What stays on your device
Your browser keeps the lesson you’re on, your recent lessons, the tutor’s notes for your sitting, your settings (such as language and subtitles), and the key that keeps you signed in. Signing out removes the lessons and notes from that device. Clearing your browser’s data for trysaitama.com removes all of it.
5. How long we keep it
- Saved lessons: your newest 30. Older ones are deleted automatically as new ones are saved.
- Accounts: until you ask us to delete yours. We may delete guest accounts that haven’t been used for a long time.
- Usage data and session recordings: only as long as we need them to improve Saitama, within PostHog’s storage limits.
- Feedback and emails: as long as we need them to act on what you told us.
6. Your choices and rights
- Learn without signing in, and sign out at any time.
- Ask for a copy of your information, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing support@trysaitama.com. We’ll reply within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR in Europe and the UK, the CCPA in California, or the DPDP Act in India may give you further rights. We honour these requests from everyone, wherever you live.
7. Young students
Saitama is made for students. If you’re under 13, or under the age at which you can agree to this on your own where you live, please use Saitama only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission. Parents and guardians: if you believe your child gave us personal information without your permission, email us and we’ll delete it.
8. Keeping it safe
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Each account’s saved lessons can be read only by that account, and by us when we need to, for example to delete them when you ask. Our keys to the services above stay on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if something goes wrong that affects you.
9. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change matters to how your information is used, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
